HOMECOMING

The happy smiles of Mark & Deidre Rogers after being crowned the l9Si-.fi? Homecoming Queen,

12

<€!Hg

Deidre Rogers

I was a 1980 Honor Graduate of North
Surry High School, I enjoy golf, tennis and
most all sports. I love sharing smiles and
spending all spare time with Mark and
friends. I love the beach and I love pizza.

When I was crowned Homecoming
Queen at Surry College I was definitely
shocked. It was a big surprise and I was
very excited. It was the highlight of my two
years at Surry Community College. I think
Surry Community College is a great place,
ThanM you for the honor!

about this, Sharon responded. "Being
chosen Maid of Honor of Surry Commu-
nity Coifege was one ot the greatest
honors I have ever received, 1 appreci-
ate everyone that made Homecoming
week and night so exciting. I will always
cherish the many friendships I have
made here."

ENCOUNTERS

encounter ten koun' t r), v.t. L. to
come upon; meet with, esp, unexpect-
edly, 2. to meet with or contend
against (difficulties, opposition, etc).
3. to meet (a person. . military force,
etc.) in conflict.

Unexpected meetings , , . a part of
life here at Surry. Through these we
acquaint ourselves with a variety of
people, and form lasting friendships
with many. Everyone who touches our
lives will become a memory to be pre-
served, like this book,

We also contend against many diffi-
culties while adjusting to college life.
There is more work to do, there are
more decisions to make. Encounter-
ing problems, we find, is something
that is inescapable, but the difficulties
we face help us grow and they, as wel3
as the good times, should be remem-
bered.

Conflict can mean battling it out on
the basketball court or Softball fieid.
or finding that the five classes you
need next quarter all meet at the
same time. These difficulties too will
be remembered for the gains they
helped us to make.

Throughout the year we have met
with many encounters of many types.
We have learned and gained exper-
ienced because of them. The people
we have met and things we have heard
and seen will have a lasting influence
on our lives.

NARY, {New York; Random House,
